Fathers Day DIY

Since my husband is a brand new dad, I decided to make him a little DIY project with Penny. He can set this up by his desk at work or his home office.

All you need is….

  • A baby (hopefully not a cranky one)
  • Three different paint colors to create an ombre effect
  • Paper
  • Frame 8×10

I picked up the paints at Target for $2 each! They have a variety of colors to chose from.

Paint the bottoms of each foot of your baby. Start with light pain and work your way down to the darker shade. Make sure you paint one foot at a time otherwise you’ll end up with a bigger mess than this!  At the bottom write the babies name along with the date and you’re finished!

Finding the Right Mascara

I love a good mascara! Mascara is one thing I cannot leave the house without. I look more awake and my lashes look full whenever I wear it and I never wear fake eyelashes..EVER…I feel like they always look too fake on me…so finding that perfect mascara that makes mine look fabulous is important to me. I have a few reviews of different mascaras that I have been using…

Too Faced – Better Than Sex

Okay, so I have heard everyone gushing and raving about this mascara…so naturally I had to pick one up for myself and see what the fuss was about. I purchased mine at Sephora for $24. Probably the most I have ever spent on a mascara, but I had to see for myself. Let me just start off by saying that I am probably the only one that was not impressed with it….at all. The container is heavy and pretty, easy to grip which I liked. The actual formula did not work for me. It was so clumpy that I looked like I was wearing mascara that had expired. I like the wand shape and size but that’s about it. I was very disappointed because I usually love all of Too Faced products.

Loreal – Voluminous

This is actually the mascara I wear every day. It gets the job done and makes my lashes stand out. I get the one with a curved brush to help give curl to my lashes. Very impressed with this mascara for the price.

Smashbox – Full Exposure

I received a sample size of this mascara not too long ago. The wand is nice because it is long and doesn’t pick up too much product. It doesn’t lengthen my lashes which the Loreal one does. I wouldn’t purchase this one but I don’t necessarily hate it.

Jelly Pong Pong – Fairy Lashes

This came in my IPSY bag and I have tried using it. It’s always good to have some back up mascaras in case one runs up. 🙂 I also like layering and experimenting with the different brushes. This specific mascara was okay but it did not curl my lashes which it claims to do. The brush was normal..nothing unique about it and the formula was okay. Went on smooth and not clumpy.

I was drawn to this mascara because of the wand and the tube. I like big wands and I cannot lie. ( HA HA ) I like volume, I like big, I like luscious, I like my lashes to be dramatic. Sometimes I only wear mascara and lipstick so I want my eyes to pop! This specific mascara did not last too long before clumping up. 😦 I was a little disappointed by that, but overall it was great!

Sometimes the more expensive stuff isn’t really worth it. I will be sticking with my Loreal mascara for now…until I hear of something super amazing!

Take care,

Best Way to Fake a Tan!

Chicago winter can be brutal and leave you as white as Snow White. It’s not necessarily a bad problem by any means, but a nice glow is always pretty once in a while. If you’re super busy like me and can’t get out in the sun, a little self tanner always does the trick!

Here are my favorites!

Vita Liberata!
This is my favorite product! It’s a natural and streak free lotion. It gives you a little color without looking orange. I like this a lot because it’s a foam and it’s very easy to apply. It take a few hours to really set in, but it’s amazing when it does. It doesn’t smell fake and it hydrates your skin as well..

Sweet Escape by Botanica
This requires some sunshine but it helps deepen the tan. It keeps your skin soft and smells really nice at the same time. It’s non oily and also streak free.

Victoria’s Secret – Bronze
This stuff is golden..literally and figuratively haha This really makes your skin a pretty tan along with evening out your skin tone and giving you that extra color. It’s very tinted so work quirky so it doesn’t dry weird on your hands. It’s full of Vitamin E and shea butter which helps moisturize your skin. This product also comes in a spray which I may try next!

What are some of your favorite tanning products? Would love to hear your input!

Stay Beautiful!

Personal Update with Penny

Penny is officially one month old now and I couldn’t be more proud of how well she is doing. I am torn between feeling excitement and a sense of sadness as she progresses. I am excited to see how and who she develops into but sad because I don’t want her to grow up too fast. I can’t wait to hear her first little giggle, the first time she tries to stand up by herself, the first time she truly smiles, her first word, when she develops likes and dislikes towards things. Having a kid is truly like having your heart run around outside of your body as you watch it.

Not everything has gone smoothly. I’ve had to adjust in so many ways along with Penny having to as well. She was born with a severe short frenulum under her tongue which made things extremely difficult for her to nurse well which caused excruciating pain for me. Not only was it painful but it made me feel like I wasn’t being a good mother. I felt like I couldn’t give her what I am supposed to be able to. We have been meeting with a lactation nurse once a week who is absolutely wonderful and helped us in so many ways. We rented a hospital grade breast pump for two weeks to help me out. I have been pumping and bottle feeding her breast milk up until a week ago! After her surgery she is getting better at being able to nurse. She still has to make adjustments and get used to it again so it’s not as easy, but we are progressing in the right direction. Just staying dedicated to breastfeeding!

I love waking up in the middle of the night with Penny. When her little cries sound out to feed her, comfort her, or just to cuddle with her and rock her back to sleep. I know she won’t stay little forever so I am trying my hardest to savor these moments the best that I know how to.

Penny gave my life meaning. A sense of fulfillment. She sealed up the last empty sliver of my heart and made it full. Life just makes sense when you have a baby to care for. It’s an indescribable feeling, but it is pure and utter enjoyment.

Being a mom is the best gift I could have ever asked for. Messy hair, dirty laundry, chaotic house, No sleep, stinky diapers, baby cries, constant pumping, and little time to eat. Even through all of that, I still wouldn’t trade my life for the world because the people in it are the world.

Right now Penny is starting to fill out and put on weight. She was born tiny at 6 pounds and 6 ounces. She smiles when you say I love you and she loves bouncing and being rocked to sleep. I found out today that she loves classical music and instrumental music. I love learning all about her! She also lives fuzzy blankets! 😌

I can’t believe she’s a month already!

What I Read and What I am Reading

The Girl on the Train

I love a good thriller and this is by far the best I have read in a while. I couldn’t put this book down because it is full of suspense!
After reading Gone Girl and all of the Gillian Flynn books, it left me wanting more. I soon discovered Paula Hawkins and my world was turned right side up again. Thank goodness! I am drawn towards fiction/thrillers because I love to sit on the edge of my seat and have my mind wonder. A good guessing game keeps my attention and intrigues me.

There are three stories being told by three different women that become intertwined. Lies, manipulation, murder, and infidelity fill up the pages of this book. It’s difficult to figure out who’s the one in real trouble…or is everyone in trouble? I do not want to give away too much in case you are going to read it. This book is being turned into a movie so make sure to get your hands on the book first!

I am currently reading The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah. I love historical fiction…especially when it comes to WWII. I have a fascination with the German culture and history. There’s so many untold stories! I grew up in Germany and majored in German when I went to college so this book is right up my ally!

I love her writing style! This book centers around France being invaded by Germany and the heartbreak one family endures. I am only on page 100 but it is such a beautiful and tragic book. I highly recommend picking it up if you are a fan of historical fiction and don’t mind being sad while reading it. A book that can make you feel is one worth reading!

What are you guys reading these days?

Beauty Killer is Here! – Review

I was beyond thrilled when Jeffree Star decided to start expanding his makeup line and create a bomb eye shadow palette. The Beauty Killer palette is huge! It’s literally big! I took a side by side comparison of it next to the Urban Decay Naked Palette just to give you an idea about the size.

This palette consists of 10 beautiful colors that are a combination of matte, glitter and frost. You can create so many different looks with this palette!

Here are the colors

Star Power – This is a matte neon pink ( one of my favorites )

Princess – This color is a frosty and pale pink

Violence – Frost Plum

Rich Bitch – This color is a killer metallic gold

Courtney – Matte neutral color

Expensive – Glitter teal

Confession – Metallic bronze color/burgundy

Vanity – Matte brown

China White – Matte white

Black Rainbow – Glitter Black

( sorry about the horrible quality photo. does the colors no justice )

I love this palette and the color combinations he picked for it. You have a few colors that can be daytime paired with the fun and funky ones! You can create either every day/daytime looks or nighttime ones. These colors are extremely unique and I don’t think I have seen a similar palette! When I tried them, I fell even more in love. They are very pigmented, easy to blend, and don’t really crease which is a huge bonus! I went 8 hours wearing my shadow and it still looked good when I got home…and it’s 80 degrees where I live so it survived the heat and humidity.

This retails for $45 and can be purchased on his website. Shipping in the U.S. is around $5. You all need to get your hands on it!

Just a short and sweet review! It’s totally worth getting and I am looking forward to creating some fun looks on my blog for you guys! Stay tuned!

Rich Blood Review!!

It took me a while to write this review because I wanted to wear the product as much as possible in order to give 100% realness to you guys. Jeffree Star Cosmetics has been growing abundantly over the past few years and I couldn’t be happier. I really enjoy his company and work because he pours his heart and soul into it and shares the same values and work ethic as I do. One main fact that makes me love him is that his products are 100% free of animal testing. UHM, hello makeup companies….Get on it! We shouldn’t be testing on animals anymore. Anyways, he really devotes his time into making sure each product is to perfection and he got the liquid lipstick formula down to a science! It’s truly perfect!

I love a good red lipstick so when I saw Rich Blood, I nearly toppled over and went to heaven. This is my favorite color by far and I hope it never gets discontinued because I would be livid! Rich Blood is exactly that…it is rich. It is a beautiful matte, yet glowing red lipstick. This particular color is a bit different than the rest and so is the formula. It is described as being a bit “moussey” but it still dries matte. The reason being is that there is glitter in it!! Did you say GLITTER?! * jaw drops * That is what makes it glowy and just overall a unique color.

These lipsticks retail at $18 on his website but are usually always sold out and very hard to get a hold of. I recommend following him on Twitter or Instagram in order to be alerted when they will be on sale again. I ordered mine during a holiday so it took a few extra days, but otherwise shipping is very fast.

Here is how I wore it!! I think this is going to be my staple color from now on. 🙂 Thanks Jeffree!

After wearing this lipstick all day long, I noticed that I didn’t really have to retouch it! It is very long lasting. I ate and drank my day away without having to touch it up. I didn’t have to worry about smudging it on accident. I always make sure my lips are moisturized before wearing a liquid lipstick. My lips are naturally dry so these matte lipsticks tend to dry my lips out even more but I didn’t have a big issue with this particular one. I really like the light weight feel it has. Some other lipsticks I have tried are a bit cakey and clumpy. Yuck! The packaging is very nice. The bottle top is pink with his signature stars and easy to find in your makeup bag or purse. The wand also makes the application a bit easier than some others I have tried.

I highly recommend his products! My next review will be about his eye shadow palette! Stay tuned for that ladies and gents! 🙂

Spring Nails!

My favorite thing about Spring aside form the weather would be the beautiful colors! I am usually not a big fan of pastel colors, but I really fell in love with these nail polishes from Essie. I really love Essie because the consistency of the polish. It goes on a bit thin so you will need to do a few coats, but I never have an issue with it chipping right away like I do with some other brands.

Lilacism – If you know me then you know I love purple! This is such a pretty, soft, romantic color. You can even pair it with the Mint Candy Apple if you wanted to. It’s fun and trendy! I like this color because it’s not too bright and in your face and can stil be worn at work and in a professional setting.

Secret Story – It’s a brighter pink with some blue undertone to it. It’s my favorite color of pink without being too Barbie.

Ballet Slippers – This is a very light pink. It is almost a neutral color with just a sliver of pink in it. It could also be fun to combine both Secret Story and this color together for contrast. This shade of pink pairs well with any outfit you are wearing because it is so neutral.

Mint Candy Apple – I love this minty blue! It’s so refreshing to look at!

Essie can be purchased in almost any drugstore, Target, Meijer, Ulta, etc… They are roughly around $8 but worth it! Hope you enjoyed this short little post. I would love to hear what your favorite nail colors are for Spring/Summer!

Stay Beautiful!

Anastasia Beverly Hills – Liquid Lipstick Review

In case you haven’t caught on yet… I am addicted to lipstick. Matte, liquid, glossy, you name it and I will wear it. Anastasia of Beverly Hills does a phenomenal job with eyebrows and contouring so I assumed they must do an awesome job with lipsticks too. I use the powder contour kit along with the eyebrow dipbrow pomade which I LOVE!!

One of my favorite shades for Summer is Spicy by Anastasia of Beverly Hills. It’s the perfect combination of orange and red. It’s vibrant and looks great with a plan or minimul face.

The name says it all. This particular liquid lipstick is easy to apply and you really only need one layer of it because the color is so strong. It applies smoothly and the wand is thin and perfect. I am so obsessed with the color that I refuse to see the flaws…but there are a few that I have about this product.

  1. It does not last very long
  2. It looks like I have a weird problem with my lips when it wears off. It’s not very pretty. It becomes flaky and starts to feather out in strange places.
  3. It smudges easily

  1. The color!!
  2. It is lightweight
  3. Very pigmented so you need less product
  4. The wand makes it easy to apply
  5. Did I mention the color?!!

Overall, I don’t think I would repurchase this lipstick because it just wears off so quickly. I don’t want to feel insecure about the makeup I wear. I hate having to keep checking myself in a mirror. However, I have yet to find a similar color anywhere else. I love this brand but it was a bit of a disappointment to find this out about their lipsticks. I heard that not all of them have the same formula so I’m not sure if they are better. If you don’t mind retouching your lipstick then this product is for you!
